Ion exchangers for drinking water treatment

Limescale deposits caused by drinking water

Drinking water undergoes extensive water treatment processes. It is strictly controlled and supplied as a clear, colourless liquid.

It is free from unpleasant odours and harmful substances. However, it is enriched with essential minerals and salts. This water quality is suitable for food, but not necessarily for technical applications.

Drinking water is not always suitable for technical applications and can cause problems such as limescale deposits on heat exchangers. Water used in technical applications, such as boiler feed water, heating water or process and service water, usually comes from the public drinking water supply. Alternatively, it is extracted from wells, rivers and lakes.

Removal of electrical charge carriers (ions)

from drinking water

Minerals, salts and carbonic acid dissolve in drinking water as electrical charge carriers, known as ions. These give drinking water properties such as electrical conductivity, total hardness and pH value. The solubility of these substances depends largely on the amount of water, temperature and application. It influences the technical usability of the water.

Drinking water can be specifically treated using ion exchangers. The electrical charge carriers dissolved in the water are removed or exchanged. This makes the water suitable for the respective application.

FAQ
How does an ion exchanger work?

An ion exchanger uses resins that absorb ions from the water and exchange them for other ions. This process removes unwanted ions, such as calcium or magnesium, and replaces them with harmless ions, such as sodium.

Why should I use a stainless steel container for ion exchange resins?

Stainless steel containers are durable, corrosion-resistant and easy to clean. They offer a safe and hygienic solution for the storage and handling of ion exchange resins.

What are the advantages of round or oval lids?

Round or oval lid options offer maximum convenience and ergonomics when filling and emptying the containers. They enable safe and easy handling.

What sizes are available for ion exchange tanks?

Our ion exchange tanks are available in volumes ranging from 10.4 to 115 litres to meet various requirements.

What are the main features of SCHÄFER Container Systems' ion exchange containers?

Our ion exchange containers are stackable, shockproof, fully coated (PU), equipped with ergonomic recessed handles and offer many branding options. They are optimised for regenerable resin mixtures and can be used in various industrial applications.
